Edward Public School played a role in designing the new jumpers with local artist Luke Moodie.
He combined artworks created by the Year 6 students from 2024 with his own to come up with a unique design for the school.
“I provided the school with a template and asked them to get the students' ideas, drawings and thoughts on what they would like to see on the uniforms,” Moodie said.
“After that, I kind of mash their ideas into one design and draw that up for the school.
“We make changes if needed, but then I paint the artwork and give that to Anthony Smith at VisAttak, so we can piece together a mock design for the school to approve.
“The new uniforms and the artwork are then provided to the school.”
Design ideas submitted by EPS students included kangaroo tracks to represent always moving forward and jumping high like Edward players, and the Kolety (Edward) River to represent the river that flows through town.
Male and female symbols were also used to represent the people of country, and stars to represent ancestry, spirits, the Dreamtime and Edward players as superstars.
The design process was similar to that of Deniliquin South Public School, where Moodie is a teacher.
South’s jumper was unveiled during the inaugural George Day Trophy round-robin basketball tournament in October last year, which EPS won.
EPS will get the chance to unveil their uniforms when they take on Deni South in a knockout competition on August 1.
The winner will go on to face Kooringal Public School, who have so far beaten Forest Hill Public School and Young North Public School.
