After leading Tatura-Hill Top to its first division one premiership in the midweek Edna Harling Shield last season, David Cartwright is regarded as one of the region’s best skips, while sons Josh and Jacob join their father in making the move to Bomberland.
This caps off a host of off-season additions for Kyabram, with distinguished division one bowlers Connor Trewren (Shepparton Golf), Brent Reiner (East Shepparton) and Geoff Beattie (East Shepparton) all set to don the red-and-black this upcoming season.
Kyabram chairman of selectors and recruiting committee member Glenn Fields said it was a thrill to welcome the Cartwrights back to the club.
“It is brilliant to have them back after a few years away,” Fields said.
“They live in town so I think they were always going to come back and with the side we are building they thought now was a good time to make that move.”
Finishing third in the Allan Matheson Shield competition last season the club will be hoping this band of recruits will be enough for it to challenge heavyweights Shepparton Golf and Tallygaroopna.
Fields said it was fantastic to see the hard work the club had put into off-season recruiting pay off.
“We are really looking forward to the season where I think we can have a real good crack (at the flag),” he said.
“It’s been a few years since Ky has won a flag, and after finishing third last year, we started up a recruiting committee to try and improve our team and push on.
“And right now that certainly looks to be paying dividends which is very exciting.”
As for if there will be more names to add to the long list of recruits at Kyabram, Fields said he was confident the club would lure a few more big names, with one more division one Tatura-Hill Top bowler already signed on.
“Dave Townsend is coming over as well which is great and he will add a lot to the club,” he said.
“We’ll still be talking to a few others, but overall we are happy with how this off-season is going.”
