After a series of narrow losses, Division 1 managed to hold on against last year's runners-up Wunghnu 58-56 (14-2).
Graeme Clements and his rink of Roger Reynoldson, Graeme Parr and Zoran Colovic won 22-14, Paul Glanvill won 23-17 and Darron Fruend went down 13-25.
Despite the win - the Curlews’ third for the season - Berrigan remain on the bottom of the ladder, one point behind seventh placed Katandra West.
The task doesn't get easier this week as Berrigan travel to take on last year's premiers. Cobram sit second on the ladder.
It was jubilation for Division 3.
Not only did they win their first match of the season, they did it in style, giving top-of-the-ladder Picola their first loss of the season, 65-58 (14-2).
Thrown in the deep end, Kelly Milich and her rink of Clare Harvey, Myles Humphries and David Fox showed the way, winning 25-19.
Steve Gann returned to form with a 19-13 win while Alex Dalgliesh lost 21-26.
The win will give the Curlews a lot of confidence when they travel to take on sixth-placed Nathalia.
A win there may see them jump off the bottom of the ladder.
Division 5 jumped to the top of the ladder with a win over the previous ladder leaders Cobram, 44-21 (12-2).
Glenys McKay, Geoff Blake, Hardy Rennick and Vidura ‘Panda’ Gunaratne won 30-7 while David Woodward lost 14-24.
With two rounds to go, Division 5 is still so tight that Berrigan need one more win to confirm a spot in the final four.
They will look to do that on the road this week, against fourth placed Strathmerton.
While it was all good news on the weekend, it was heartbreak for the midweek Curlews who suffered the narrowest of losses against Barooga, at Barooga, 53-52 (12-4).
Mary Curtin won 22-14, Elaine Hawkins won 18-17 and Glenys McKay lost 12-22.
The loss sees Berrigan drop out of the four with one round remaining.
The Curlews will need to defeat seventh place Cobram and hope bottom team Barooga upset Numurkah to make the finals.
The Murray Bowls Singles Champion of Champions event was played on Sunday.
Representing the Curlews were club champions Rachel Glanvill and Rick Bradbury.
It was Glanvill's return to bowls a mere three weeks after the birth of her daughter Aurora.
While she battled gamely, she lost her first round match to her Nathalia opponent 25-9.
In the men's, Bradbury has made it to the semi-finals.
Lucky enough to draw a bye in the first round, Bradbury won his second round match 25-15.
He will play the Strathmerton champion next Sunday morning at Cobram.
One semi-final of the Neville Burke Mug was played during the week.
Paul Glanvill (20) made his way into the final with a win over Graeme Parr (11), 21-15.
In the final, Glanvill will meet either Matt Hansen (12) or Zoran Colovic (7) who will play their semi-final this weekend.
The Bernard Curtin Open B-grade singles has been postponed to Sunday, February 26.
Tocumwal
Rebecca Dungan participated in the Novice State Championship at Mulgrave on Sunday and, in a great effort, got down to the last eight.

Effie Eaton, Cheryl Townsing and Leigh Hansen will be playing off in the State Championship Women's Triples Last 16 on Friday, April 28, to be held at the Bendigo East Bowling Club.
Good luck for the upcoming event.
