Standing at 2.13m tall, you cannot miss him, either.
Chris Anstey, a pioneer of Australian basketball, is set to touch down in the Goulburn Valley next week to deliver a motivating session at Shepparton’s SEDA College campus.
A giant figure in more ways than one, Anstey arrives on July 23 with SEDA marketing manager Steve Rogers explaining what students can expect from the session.
“We have a number of ambassadors who are elite sporting stars that assist us with our program,” he said.
“Chris will be going into the SEDA classroom in Shepparton and telling a few stories about his life and motivation for the students, and also delivering some basketball coaching, running a few drills.”
SEDA, an independent year 11 and 12 senior secondary college, is the largest provider of the VCE Vocational Major in Victoria.
The curriculum is centred around an applied learning model focusing on sport, suitable for students who are interested in sport.
And in Australian basketball, there’s few better to learn off than Anstey.
The towering centre was selected at pick 18 by the Portland Trailblazers in the 1997 NBA Draft, making him the first player in history to be drafted from Australia’s NBL.
He was traded to the Dallas Mavericks, and it was here where Anstey went toe to toe with, depending on who you ask, the game’s GOAT.
His Mavs faced Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls during the ‘Last Dance’ era, marking an unforgettable moment in a career that bore appearances at two Olympic Games, three seasons in Russia and more than 300 games in the NBL.
Wednesday’s session will be Anstey’s second visit to SEDA Shepparton, following his appearance at the college in 2022.
The former NBA star also appeared at Shepparton’s Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch in 2023, guest speaking alongside comedian Peter Helliar.
