The Bushies had the better of early proceedings with a one-goal buffer at the first break of the Wangaratta Showgrounds clash, but the Cannons’ four-goal to no score second term swung the margin to their advantage to the tune of 23 points.
That eventually blew out to 43, the 7.10 (52) to 14.11 (95) result consigning the Bushies to their fourth consecutive defeat.
Shepparton United’s Tanner Armstrong tallied 23 disposals and five marks, while Caden Ratcliffe swung forward and kicked two goals in a role change for the young Mooroopna talent.
The Bushies are 17th with four games to play and will reset for a clash against the Bendigo Pioneers at Queen Elizabeth Oval this Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Murray Bushranger girls are back on the winners’ list.
The Bushies built their 10.9 (69) to 3.2 (20) victory on the back of a barnstorming first quarter, leaping to a 25-point lead to lay the groundwork.
Majella Day, Isabella Klein, and Skylah McPherson all booted three goals apiece.
The result keeps the Bushies right in the race for finals, squaring the win-loss ledger at 5-5 ahead of this weekend’s game against the Pioneers.
