Former world champion boxer and NRL star Anthony ‘‘The Man’’ Mundine will visit Goulburn Valley Boxing Academy next week to deliver a seminar and training session.
Mundine’s visit will be split into two sessions at the GVBA gym: a seminar where the two-time world champion will share insight into his career, followed by a training session with the man himself.
The training session will consist of partner drills and then an open gym where Mundine will offer tips and training for participants.
In a boxing career that spanned from 2000 to 2021, Mundine held the World Boxing Association super-middleweight title twice between 2003 and 2009.
He then took out the International Boxing Association middleweight title in 2009 and held the WBA’s interim super-welterweight title from 2011 to 2012.
Prior to an illustrious boxing career, Mundine was the highest-paid player in the NRL, having enjoyed stints at St George Illawara Dragons and Brisbane Broncos.
GVBA head coach Zedda Harrington, who’s followed Mundine’s career closely, said having someone of his calibre at the club would be of great benefit to the entire GVBA community.
“I’ve been boxing competitively for 20 years and coaching for the last seven due to knee surgery,” Harrington said.
“My family’s been boxing for three generations and my old man followed his father, Tony Mundine.
“After Anthony made the switch from NRL he said he’d be one to watch, we’ve been glued to him ever since.
“I think it’ll be really good for everyone and especially our Indigenous community — to get some words of wisdom from him.”
