Having won just one game through 12-and-a-half rounds of the 2025 season, against Benalla in round three, Kyabram is not only looking at growing its young side in the next few years, but bolstering it with some experienced talent.
“Our team is so young right now, seeing how we’ve gone this season is showing that, our average age of players this season is 19,” Kyabram A-grade co-coach Peter Hall said.
“We still need to continue to grow and bring in a few experienced players to help lift and develop those younger girls.
“We want to keep our side for next year and grow organically, and I think a few veteran players with a lot of experience would be very beneficial.
“That’s really up to the lack of experience and the youth of that team, that’s why we are looking at recruitment for next season to try and foster that belief and bring a steady hand.”
Despite it not being the most successful season on-court for the Bombers, Hall highlighted how proud he is of the team and their determination to improve and support each other.
“The girls are great, they turn up to training, put the work in, and they all get along well, so that is a good sign for us,” he said.
“They are all willing to take on new challenges all the time, it’s just that belief that they can do it which is stopping them from winning more games.
“But in terms of chemistry and the vibe of our team is great, and even though we are losing games, they want to keep coming back and trying their best week in and week out.
“Our girls never blame anyone and take everything as a team, which is something I have really enjoyed about coaching them, they just get out there and work harder, which is a great positive mindset to have.”
Hall emphasised how getting the win against the Saints was a good learning opportunity for the Bombers, highlighting it is typically just one bad stretch costing the team in most games.
However, Hall hopes the experience gained throughout the remainder of the season will put Kyabram in good stead, to not just grow, but succeed next season and beyond.
“Getting that win against Benalla was really good, it proved to them that with our other games it’s really one quarter of netball that is costing us most of the time,” he said.
“That’s something that we will work really hard on over the next six weeks and try to knock that off as a goal for the rest of the season.
“We have a bright future undoubtedly, if we can keep this group together over the next 12 to 18 months, we’ll be right in the mix with them gaining more experience and development.”
