Teague, who hails from Katandra, will join Richmond as an assistant coach after being controversially sacked as senior coach of Carlton after two-and-a-half seasons.
After taking over as caretaker midway through the 2019 season, he enjoyed a 50-game stint in charge at the Blues returning a modest record of 21-29 with the club finishing 11th in 2020 and 13th in 2021.
Following an external review of the club’s football operations Teague found himself to be one of the casualties as Carlton recently decided to appoint Brisbane legend Michael Voss as his successor at Ikon Park.
Prior to joining the Blues, Teague had stints with West Coast and Adelaide where he gained a reputation as one of the game’s most accomplished assistant coaches.
Now finding himself a new opportunity at Punt Road Teague said he was thrilled to be a part of the Tigers’ coaching unit.
“Coaching is my passion and I am excited by the opportunity to get to work with a new group of players and at a new club,” Teague said in a statement last week.
“I am looking forward to getting to work this pre-season and embracing the challenge that we all have, to climb the Tigers back up the ladder in 2022.”
After a successful 10-year stint with Western Bulldogs Shepparton product Steven King will continue his coaching journey up north, joining Gold Coast as a senior assistant.
King played 240 games over 15 seasons with Geelong and St Kilda before taking on a role as a ruck/midfield coach at the Saints following his retirement in 2009.
At the end of 2011 King would make his way to Western Bulldogs where he contributed to their drought-breaking premiership in 2016 and climbed his way up the ranks to the point where he departs having been a senior assistant under Luke Beveridge since 2019.
King took the opportunity to thank the club for the opportunities it has given him over the past 10 years.
“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to work with an amazing organisation like the Western Bulldogs,” King said.
“The experience of collaborating with a motivated group of players and staff, in such a supportive and close-knit environment, has been extremely rewarding.
“In particular, I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with an extremely talented, hard-working and driven midfield group at the Dogs.
“I want to thank everyone at the Bulldogs for their support, guidance and friendship over the last decade, and I wish the club every success for the future as I embark on a new coaching challenge.”
