The talented midfielder's horror run of bad luck continued last week when he injured his knee playing for Carlton in the VFL.
Maher, 19, was featuring in his first appearance for the Blues.
Maher's coach at the Murray Bushrangers, Mark Brown, said on Thursday the star youngster was set for a stint on the sidelines.
It is another gut-wrenching episode for the classy on-baller and follows his torn meniscus injury in his knee during pre-season.
Maher has already sustained two broken ankles and a strained MCL during his football career.
Maher has played three games for the Bushrangers in 2021, to go with his senior debut for Shepparton United earlier this season.
“Unfortunately, it is unlikely we'll see him play again for us this year,” Brown said.
“He injured his knee last week for Carlton in the VFL which is terrible news. Zav has been really unlucky, he's just had no continuity in the past couple of seasons.
“He's a terrific young kid and I have no doubt he will bounce back from this latest setback.”
Unfortunately, the Bushies’ scheduled NAB League under-19 match against Western Jets on Sunday will not go ahead as Victoria enters another lockdown.
The Bushrangers were pencilled in to play at Shepparton's Deakin Reserve.
Brown — who spoke before the state entered another lockdown on Thursday night — said the Bushies would field 16-year-old talents in the remaining two games of the season.
“We will start to integrate our younger talent, those 16-year-old players, over our remaining two games,” Brown said.
“For some it will be their first taste at NAB League level and we are looking forward to seeing how they perform.
“We have a reasonably strong group of 16s and we have got to make sure that they are accustomed to NAB League footy next year.”
