Lawn bowls | GVBD weekend pennant finals action arrives

By Tyler Maher

Top tier Goulburn Valley Bowls Division finals action will descend on Hill Top Bowls Club today.

Both division one finals matches will be held at the home of the Hillbillies, with the contests set to excite supporters and onlookers alike.

Brad Orr's Shepparton Golf troops secured yet another minor premiership in their quest for a five-peat in the Allan Matheson Shield competition and, aside from a pair of losses under lights, have looked comfortably the best team in the division once more.

Shepparton Park has the chance to win through to the grand final ahead of the Golfers when the side challenges the perennial premier in a qualifying clash.

Paul Nichols and his charges were one of the outfits to defeat Golf this season and will take plenty of confidence from that performance.

In the elimination fixture, East Shepparton and Stanhope will do battle with everything on the line.

Daniel Nichols and his East teammates are looking to go one better than last year's runner-up finish.

For Stanhope, anything is possible after coming from 17 points out of finals contention ahead of the last game of the season and pulling off a heist to sneak in.

The likes of Shane Walsh and Tim Hancock have led the way as Stanhope turned its year around from a possible relegation battle to being one of the final four sides left in the division.

● Other weekend pennant finals will take place at East Shepparton (division two and five), Euroa (division three), Tatura (division four), Kyabram (division six west) and Dookie (division six east).

Shepparton Park faces Tatura in the division two elimination final, with Tallygaroopna and Shepparton Golf doing battle in the qualifying fixture.

The Golfers tackle East in the division three knockout clash - with Mooroopna Golf and Rushworth both earning a second chance - while in division four Hill Top, East Shepparton, Tallygaroopna and Euroa are all involved in the post-season.

There will be no tomorrow for one of Colbinabbin and Mooroopna Golf in division five, but there will be for both of Stanhope and Seymour.

Tatura, Mooroopna, Shepparton Golf, Stanhope, Seymour, East Shepparton, Euroa and Shepparton Park are all vying for division six titles.
