It was a game that ebbed and flowed in favour of both sides until Tally gained the upper hand in the dying stages to clinch a memorable 32-31 victory.
The one-goal win was the first time the Redlegs had beaten the Lakers in A-grade since July 2016 and winning coach Lisa Crosier said the outcome was a memorable occasion for her side.
‘‘I’m just really proud of the side, all nine players stood up and played out of their skin,’’ Crosier said.
‘‘Right across the court everyone contributed, nobody played a poor game which was great to see.
‘‘The goalers did well and our midcourt with Hayley McDonald and Claudia Gallagher were unbelievable, and goal keeper Kayla Woodhouse stood up too.’’
Tally started the game in superb fashion and gained ascendency to lead by five goals at the first break, before Nagambie pegged back the margin in an even second term.
The Lakers slipped up in the third term as Tally powered out to a 10-goal lead, but Nagambie’s experience and willpower got it back within striking distance in the last.
‘‘I always knew that they were going to come back at us, they are a quality side and put up a terrific contest,’’ Crosier said.
‘‘At the final break my main message to the group was that we just need to back our basics and hold possession and play patiently.
‘‘To come back from last week’s loss was a great effort, even though I didn’t think we played badly against Dookie.
‘‘Being a new side, it will take us a few rounds to click, but overall I’m just really proud of how everyone played.’’

Dookie United continued on from its opening round win and defeated Avenel 58-29, with that win now positioning the Thunder at the top of the A-grade ladder, while in the other game Lancaster defeated Ardmona.
