The project is a partnership between Dairy Australia and Agriculture Victoria.
Through the project Agriculture Victoria specialists provide advice to farmers on navigating planning processes and options to consider when moving away from traditional grazing systems.
The Dairy Transition project is not a grants program to carry out on-farm works.
Higher prices for home brand milk welcomed
A move by supermarket retailer Woolworths to raise the price of home brand milk has been welcomed by Australian Dairy Farmers.
From November 25, Woolworths milk will sell for the following prices:
- one-litre Woolworths-branded milk — $1.35;
- two-litre Woolworths-branded milk — $2.60; and
- three-litre Woolworths-branded milk — $3.90.
After a dairy market downturn lasting several years, the average milk price paid to Australian farmers has increased 13 per cent between 2018 ($6.14/kgMS) and 2021 ($6.91/kgMS), according to Dairy Australia.
“However, prices for farm inputs, such as fertiliser, water, fuel and energy, and a tight labour market, have increased costs in the same period, so any increase in profits passed back to dairy farmers is welcome,” ADF president Rick Gladigau said.
