The 32-year-old ruptured an ACL in the qualifying final win over Canberra last September but has played three matches in Queensland Cup for the Magpies on the comeback trail.
He is now hoping to be recalled to the Broncos, most likely on a six-man bench, for the must-win away clash with Penrith on Thursday night.
Walters played two games at halfback for the Magpies but switched to hooker on Sunday, where he played 41 minutes in a 30-14 loss to Brisbane Tigers.
"I played limited minutes yesterday at nine (hooker) just to try and get my feel back there and to put my best foot forward to let Madge (Maguire) know that I'm right and I'm ready to go now, wherever he wants to use me," Walters said on Monday..
"I knew when it was my turn to come back that we'd have a pretty much full squad.
"I think we're nearly back to full strength beside Corey Jensen, so he's got a lot of options to choose from and I'm hoping he chooses me. But if not, it's what's best for the team."
The Broncos have lost eight games in a row and Walters has come good at the right time. His versatility makes him an ideal bench option after he starred at the back-end of last year as five-eighth.
Brisbane do have their State of Origin stars available for the clash with the competition leaders and halves Ezra Mam and Adam Reynolds are set to return from injury.
Walters said he was also prepared to play as a ball-playing middle forward off the bench if Patrick Carrigan and Payne Haas had done the heavy lifting early.
"I'm just excited to be back playing and I really want to play for the Broncos again, so, if (Maguire) tells me to get on the back fence and take a kick-off carry, I'll do it," he said.
The veteran did not train on Monday due to the fact he played the day before but he was deep in conversation with Broncos leadership consultant Cameron Smith as he watched on.
"I was just having a little chinwag with him about the season and what I can do to help the boys get back on track," Walters said.
"When you've got someone like him at training, you pick his brain and see where you can improve.
"He gave me a few tips to implement if I do get a run."
