A man who allegedly took an unconscious woman from the front yard of a Shepparton house and raped her has officially entered a plea in court.
Dexley Bule Meme, 29, pleaded not guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to charges of rape and obtaining a person for sexual purposes.
The Vanuatu national is alleged to have found a drunk and unconscious woman in the front yard of a Shepparton house, put her in his car and driven off with her between 11pm and midnight on August 10 last year.
He is then alleged to have raped her.
Speaking through an interpreter, Mr Bule Meme, who had been living in Shepparton at the time of the alleged incident, officially entered a not guilty plea to both charges in the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on May 14 and was directed to the Melbourne County Court to stand trial.
He will next face court in June for a directions hearing.
