Two men assaulted the 40-year-old and then continued to assault him when he fell on to the road, according to police.
The attack, by two men wearing motorbike helmets, happened about 3.15pm on Ashenden St.
After the assault, the two men rode off on dirt bikes.
One of the dirt bikes was blue and the other red, and neither had registration plates, according to police.
Emergency services were called, with Ashenden St closed off near the Archer St intersection for about 30 minutes.
The victim was injured, but was not interested in engaging with ambulance officers, police said.
Police investigations into the incident are continuing.
