There is massive curiosity among Australians about why we have got to be the way we are. There is a fascination about the inhuman depths we have reached as a nation. An amazement at the complexity of skill and nostalgia of behaviour we think we probably enjoyed.
Australia has a long list of national achievements. There is a political, social and sporting history where we have transformed many ordinary people into legends.
I grew up remembering the television adverts of Paul Hogan saying put a shrimp on the barbecue filmed under the Sydney Harbour Bridge. And Sam Kekovich is asking us to eat loin chops on the barbie for Australia Day.
Australians support each other; we respond generously to these needs when bushfires and floods occur. For these reasons, I love Australia and wouldn’t change it any other way.
