While some parts of eastern Victoria had a much wetter than usual 2021, and those in western Victoria had a drier year, Shepparton sat on the fence with rainfall.
There was a mere 4.7mm more rain recorded in Shepparton in 2021, compared to the long-term average for the town.
The Bureau of Meteorology rain gauge at Shepparton Airport recorded a total of 441.2mm during 2021. The long-term average yearly rainfall is 436.5mm.

When averaged out over the whole year, Shepparton’s night-time temperature was also ever so slightly lower than usual.
In 2021, the night-time average temperature over the whole year was 8.6℃, as compared to the long-term average of 8.8℃.
Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Chris Arvier said these temperatures put Shepparton on a similar footing when compared to most of Victoria.
“There were slightly below-average temperatures for Victoria as a whole (in 2021),” he said.
However, Victoria’s story was different to that of Australia as a whole.
“Australia, as a whole, saw one of the cooler years in the past 10 years, but it was still above average,” Mr Arvier said.
