One incident resulted in a 16 year-old being airlifted to the Prince Alfred Hospital in Melbourne with non-life threatening injuries.
Deniliquin-based Detective Chief Inspector Jy Brown said the teen was a passenger in the car, which was being driven by a 17 year-old.
They were returning to Deniliquin from working on a property when they collided with a feral pig on the Wakool Rd, near Yaloke Rd, about 8pm Monday.
“The collision caused the vehicle to veer to the right side of the road, and off the road, where it rolled several times,” Det Chief Insp Brown said.
“A passing car stopped to render assistance, but police believe the 16 year-old may have been ejected from the car during the incident.
“Emergency services were called and both occupants of the car were taken to Deniliquin Hospital.
“The following morning, the passenger was flown to the Prince Alfred with non-life threatening injuries.”
Det Chief Insp Brown said more detailed examinations revealed the teens had actually collided with more than one pig.
“When police went to the crash scene the next day, they found three deceased pigs with injuries consistent with being hit by a heavy object,” he said.
“The car was also examined and also showed evidence consistent with three animals being involved.”
While inquiries are ongoing, Det Chief Insp Brown said police believe the driver was complying with the rules of his licence, which meant he was travelling below the speed limit.
Police are also investigating a crash from Sunday night, resulting from a kangaroo sighting.
In an attempt to avoid colliding with the large marsupial on the Conargo Rd about midnight, a 24 year-old woman left the roadway and collided with a concrete drain.
This caused the car to roll, and spin to face the opposite direction.
She was headed back into Deniliquin from Conargo.
“Unable to find her phone, the woman started walking in what she believed was the direction of Deniliquin.
“About 40 minutes later she was picked up by a passing track driver, driven back past the crash site and dropped off near her home.
“After arriving home an ambulance was called, and she was conveyed to Deniliquin Hospital for treatment.
“In the meantime, another passing motorist drove past the crash and contacted emergency services.
“Police later spoke to the driver at the hospital, and inquiries are ongoing.”
Deniliquin Fire + Rescue NSW Acting Captain Les Booth said emergency services were called to the Conargo Rd about 3.20am.
He said first responder from the brigade, Deniliquin Rescue Squad - VRA, police and Ambulance NSW paramedics arrived to find the car unattended.
After checks and hazmat (hazardous materials) protocols were completed, they left the scene.
