The Liberal MP has called on the Andrews Government to commit its share of funding towards stage one of the Shepparton bypass project as well as the redevelopment of the Shepparton Sports Stadium.
“Both the Shepparton bypass and the Shepparton Sports Stadium redevelopment are high-priority projects for Greater Shepparton City Council, and the Andrews Government needs to step up and financially support them,” Ms Lovell said.
Ms Lovell cited the October flooding that saw the causeway between Moooopna and Shepparton closed as proof that a second river crossing between Shepparton and Mooroopna was needed.
Ms Lovell said the Liberal Nationals Coalition made a pre-election funding commitment of $260 million, the state government’s share of stage one of the project, and she has called on Transport Infrastructure Minister Jacinta Allan to immediately match this commitment.
Ms Lovell also reminded the state government about the Coalition’s pre-election pledge to provide $20 million to the redevelopment of the Shepparton Sports Stadium.
The Liberals believe the project would not only turn the Shepparton Sports and Events Centre into a world class facility, creating many jobs in the process, but also would be crucial in any future emergency.
During the October flood the current facility could not be used as a recovery centre due to the roof leaking in multiple areas and the facility’s location, which is below current flood levels.
“The Premier says he governs for all Victorians; he needs to put his money where his mouth is and provide funding to both important infrastructure projects,” Ms Lovell said.
