B grade
Rennie 16 defeated by Tungamah 49.
It was another sunny but very cold day for netball. The extreme winds meant it was going to be a day where accuracy and drive for the ball was paramount.
Coming up against cross town rivals at Rennie meant everyone was looking for the win.
The girls started really well and did not let the conditions affect their game. Kara and Leisa shot well given the conditions and fought for rebounds to make the most of every opportunity.
At half time, the lead was 13 goals. Claire returned from injury with a standout 11 intercepts in the second half.
It was great to see her back on the court. One of the key goals for the team this year is around defensive pressure and each week this continues to build.
Some basic errors crept into the game in the second half.
These will be a focus at training this week to ensure the Bears do not give away possession through penalties.
Another good team effort from everyone.
Awards: Players player - Ella Costigan - Thyme tor Coffee, Coaches award - Bernadette Attwood - Bella Pelle & Opposition award - Claire Dawson.
C Grade
Rennie 15 defeated by Tungamah 42.
The cold and windy conditions gave the Bears a slow start, the girls took a while to warm up against old rival Rennie.
A friendly bet meant Carly was determined to get as many goals in as she could with her and Steph shooting extremely well despite the weather.
They moved well and kept fighting to get front spot, there was even a trick pass around the goal post in the third quarter.
Lisa and Mel worked seamlessly together making smart choices when feeding into the ring.
Grace was the versatile player this week, coming forward up the court as wing attack, working well to fed into the shooters.
Defensive pressure once again was unbeatable. If the ball was in Rennie’s hands every player switched to defend to get it back.
Ally, Kirby and Kait were big contributors for the game getting the most taps and intercepts, with a total of 36 intercepts the ball hardly made it into the oppositions goal ring.
With the windy conditions a few bad passes were saved by players backing each other up, really good to see.
C Grade missed Mariah and Lani this week, thank you Emma Walker for sitting on the bench.
Awards: Player’s player - Ally Cooper, Miss Dolly - Lisa Ramadge and Wingate’s - Mellissa Cummins.
C Reserve
Rennie 11 defeated by Tungamah 42.
With 5 of the team away, 8 C-Res players took the court on what would probably be the windiest game any have ever played.
Amber stepping up as Captain proved to be a great asset on the court with her encouragement and typical “Amber” passes from mid court straight into the ring, as well as picking up many lose balls and getting a lot of intercepts (which gained her the players player award).
Leanne and Sheryl getting the goals in by adjusting to the wind which everyone thought was going to be impossible but as the score shows they managed well.
Georgia, Vanessa, Emma, and Katie all guided the ball down and got some intercepts.
Emma stopping a few centre passes, Vanessa sticking to her player like glue and Katie teaming up with Amber for some cheeky throws from mid court into the ring whilst Sally and Bridge held onto their seats yelling “no lobs”.
They worked so the Bears got away with them. Georgia in the mid court as well as in defence put in 100% and also gained some turn overs and made wonderful space on the court.
Sally managed a whole three quarters which she keeps telling is impossible, but she managed, and with a lot less whinging about her broken body than when she only plays half.
The Bears are immensely proud of the efforts so far as a team in 2021.
Awards: Club Mulwala – Vanessa, Free as a bird - Georgia and Mug – Amber.
Under 17s
Rennie 60 defeated Tungamah 3.
Under 17’s came up against the top side this week and unfortunately had a loss.
However, every week they are improving which is a positive note! The defence end forced lots of turnovers with Emmi taking out the game with best on court.
Everyone had great hands all the way down the court however they just could not execute the goals that they needed.
Overall, the girls are getting better every week and will hopefully get a win soon.
Under 15s
Rennie 46 defeated Tungamah 18.
In what was one of the windiest rounds of the year the girls knew they had a big game ahead of them. The Bears came up against a fast-paced team, who just proved to be too smart and quick.
The Bears defence end worked strong all game, jumping for every rebound they could get and applying great pressure to get those turnovers.
The attackers worked hard to move the ball into the ring where the goalers then tried hard to get the goals in.
Unfortunately, the girls could not get the four points, but it proves the Bears have many things to focus on at training to come back better and stronger. Keep it up girls!
Awards: Mykie and Bridie.
Under 13s
Rennie 25 defeated Tungamah 7.
In extremely cold conditions the Bears girls struggled to play their game of netball this week.
The Bears were lucky to have the support of Lilli and Demmi on the sidelines and Debbie umpiring. During the game there was lots of turnovers, but Rennie were strong opponents and made it difficult for Tunga to score.
Maddi held her ground as GA, Abbi in C took the ball in quickly when received and was able to push it down the court.
Tayla had a chance to shoot and did not disappoint, sinking a few long-range goals.
Charli led forward all day, Emily C was always looking towards the attack to get the closest option.
Emily B had a tough day on the court but was able to limit her opponents shooting opportunities, Brooke intercepted many times and fought for all loose balls.
Elli was carrying a small ankle injury and made an appearance in the last quarter and read the play to cause turnovers.
Milli held her ground on the ring and was always an option, Jaz also listened to Coach Jen on the sidelines and followed her instructions which allowed her to intercept which resulted in a goal being scored.
Awards: Players- Crusty Loaf: Emily B, Coach- gift: Emily C.
Under 11s
No score kept.
Winter turned up this week, it was very hard for the mini Bears and spectators to keep warm, but the girls still played well under the tough conditions.
Big thankyou to Briar and Jenny for umpiring. The shooters had wind to contend with this week but Grace, Chloe and Poppy still worked well together in the ring and were able to score goals when the opportunity was there.
The midcourt of Billie, Ava, Paige and Kiera were kept warm by lots of running and re-leading.
The defence of Molly and Chaye kept the pressure on Rennie and jumped for rebounds which was great to see.
Awards: McDonalds- Kiera and Coaches- Poppy.
