The highly successful Tri-State Games is set to return to Cobram, Barooga and Yarrawonga this November.

The annual week-long sporting event for people with disabilities is run by Cobram Barooga Business and Tourism Inc, in conjunction with Berrigan and Moira shire councils, Barooga Sporties, Cobram PALS, YMCA and Valley Sport.

An expected 300 participants are set to attend this year’s event alongside coaches, support staff and cheering family members.

The event is for competitors from Victoria, NSW and South Australia.

Much like the Olympics, the games will begin with an opening ceremony on Monday, November 13, comprising a street parade and the raising of the Tri-State Games flag.

The parade will start at Federation Park and travel down Punt Rd, Cobram between Dillon and Williams Sts and then on to Mivo Park.

Moira Shire Council panel of administrators chair John Tanner said the event would be great for the local economy.

“Beyond the competition, these games foster an environment of inclusivity and support while simultaneously contributing economic benefits to our community,” Mr Tanner said.

“Athletes, accompanied by their teams and supporters, converge from diverse locations, injecting life into our area.”

Berrigan Shire Mayor Julia Cornwell McKean said the games presented an excellent opportunity for cross-border relations.

“This is such a wonderful event for our community,” she said.

“I encourage everyone to get involved, from volunteer groups to our retail, hospitality and accommodation providers, so that the athletes and their families and supporters have a truly memorable experience.”
