Music producers Ree Peric and Jonathan Safari have put together a free program of music and dance under Multicultural Arts Victoria’s latest initiative to support young regional artists of colour.
The NEWPRINT: Block 30 concert will take place on Friday, December 10, at Victoria Park Lake featuring a line-up of young performers from the Shepparton and Melbourne area, including Mr C, Nesian Blue, Hoodie 4L, Dorika, Bricky B, Madi Colville Walker, Lillie Walker, DJ Rivity Rascal, Ms Peric and Mr Safari, who performs under the name Yungkily, with Monga Mukasa taking the hosting duties.
Ms Peric said the concert would be a celebration of the “out-of-lockdown” experience for Shepparton artists.
“It’s the first opportunity for our community to come back together and see what everyone has been working on,” she said.
“People have been working at home all this time and waiting to showcase new skills they have been building up.
“I guess it’s a fresh page for everyone to start again.”
Mr Safari said it was a great opportunity to bring young artists together in front of a live audience once more.
“It means a lot personally — it’s been a great experience to support local artists who don’t usually get the exposure,” he said.
“Everyone is excited to get back together face-to-face. For me, it’s a celebration after being stuck at home for nearly two years.”
NEWPRINT: Block 30 is on Friday, December 10 from 5pm at the western side of Victoria Park Lake near the all-abilities playground and the grassy hill.
The show is an all-ages family-friendly event, with a Nanna Marce food truck selling meals, doughnuts, coffee and cold drinks.
The event is strictly no alcohol and proof of vaccination will be required.
