The proposed names of the parks, each of which is in different parts of the city, were endorsed at council’s monthly meeting on October 17.
They are Trinity Park in the Grammar Estate, Cormorant Park in Seven Creeks Estate and Glenferrie Park in the Boulevard Estate.
Council said the names were in line with the naming rules for places in Victoria 2022 and were placed on public notice without any submissions being received.
The next step is for the names to be gazetted by Geographic Names Victoria.
Deputy Mayor Anthony Brophy told the meeting the suggested names were “destinational” names and provided practical outcomes for emergency services.
“The naming of those three particular parks are very much destinational names so it actually shows the locality of where those particular places are,” he said.
“Sometimes, we named just recently the Lance Woodhouse Green in Kialla, which was terrifically named, but in terms of emergency services, it’s always important to know the location of where they are going.
“Sometimes the name doesn’t always tell them that particular thing, but if you’re going to Cormorant Park you know where Cormorant Boulevard is in Kialla and, therefore, they’ll know where to go, so in terms of ambulances, in terms of the fire brigade etc and CFA they’ll know where to go.”
