The past two years of the pandemic have seen a lot of volunteering activities for the club come to a halt.
So, this year members are hoping to boost those opportunities by getting out into the community again and working with local businesses to support the area.
Past president and spokesperson for the club Bill Purcell is keen to get things under way with the upcoming International Dairy Week in Tatura in two weeks’ time.
“We do the rubbish collection for council during that week, which is a big fundraising event for the Rotary Club, and we haven’t been able to do it for the last two years because of COVID. So, we look forward to raising some much-needed funds to assist the local community,” he said.
“This year we hope to broaden our involvement with the corporate businesses in Tatura, hoping they’ll be able to take on a bigger part in our fundraising this year.”
The corporate sponsorship is a unique program designed for businesses to take part in Rotary events and fundraising.
“When a company donates a large amount of money over $500 their CEO becomes a member of Rotary, and if they can’t make it to events and meetings they can nominate two to three people in their organisation to attend on behalf of them,” Mr Purcell said.
The money raised goes towards community projects in Tatura and overseas programs to help those who need it most.
“What makes the Rotary Club so unique is it’s a worldwide organisation which is doing a lot of good for humanity and there’s also fellowship involved,” Mr Purcell said.
“It’s a good organisation to be involved in as it’s a professional organisation of professional people doing their bit for the community and the world.
“We have heaps of programs like PolioPlus, malaria eradication program worldwide, and there are various things in Third World countries.”
