The business is proposing to build two more glasshouses next to the existing site on Midland Hwy about 7 km out of Mooroopna.
The two stage development on five hectares will build two greenhouses with heating equipment including a gas furnace, a packing shed, a 17 Ml storage dam which will catch roof water for re-use, and staff facilities. The property's water supply is from the Goulburn-Murray Water network, but is topped up with rainwater harvesting.
The business is run by the Murphy family, which also owns a large hydroponic operation near Mansfield.
Tomatoes are grown in a climate-controlled greenhouse which also delivers tailored nutrition to the plants.
Teams of workers cultivate the seedlings, manually pollinate the plants and pick the fruit over 10 months.
Fruit is delivered daily to distribution centres across Australia.
The expansion will create new employment opportunities for about 50 staff per stage, according to a planning application.
Tatura Fresh has sought planning permission from the City of Greater Shepparton to expand to the west of the two large greenhouses on farming land.
The company is also looking for a reduced setback to bring the development within 16 m of the front boundary.
The proposal, which is on public planning exhibition until October 20, will use the existing Tatura Fresh entrance off Midland Hwy.
