Jack Lowry was a Shire of Rodney president and councillor who had opened Tatura Bowls Club's new club rooms in 1969 and bowled with the club from the mid-1970s until his passing in 2001.
Jack was an industrious and hard working club member and also contributed much to his community in Dhurringile and Tatura.
Competing bowls teams came from Tatura, Rushworth, Hill Top and Murchison.
The competition was over three games and after their completion there were four three-game winners.
Two teams scored the highest score of 47 points with Barry Ibbott, Ken Cornell and David "Taffy" Moreton taking out the major prize with plus 30 shots from the runners-up Peter Le Sueur, Graham Andrus and Phil Boyd with plus 17 shots.
Also with three wins, but out of the prize monies was the Rushworth team of Mal McLean, Mavis Marshall and Neville Thompson, and the Murchison team of Jim and Margaret Tweddle and the memorial sponsor, and Jack Lowry's daughter, Helen Newton.
The raffle was won by Adrian Barry and the consolation prize by Ken Cornell.
Well done to the organisers of the Jack Lowry Memorial Shield day and much appreciation to the many members and guests who provided a wonderful afternoon tea where players partook of a magnificent fare.
The club also took the occasion to pay a fitting tribute to esteemed bowls club members Graham and Joyce Andrus, who are leaving the district to relocate to Invergordon.
A send off and lunch will be held at Hill Top Bowls Club this Friday from 12.30pm and if anybody wishes to attend please inform Dot Best for catering purposes.
The Tatura indoor bowls group advises it will be holding its annual general meeting at Tatura Bowls Club in Service St at 8pm on Monday, March 15.
All interested in playing are welcome to attend.
