There were 84 golfers on Saturday contesting the first qualifying round for the club championships as well as the Privilege Cup.
Terry Olney won B-grade and the cup with a round of 82-14-68 while Sean Martin was runner-up in that grade with a 70. James Peck won A-grade with 75-7-68 and Tim Nicholson was runner-up with 74-5- 68 on a countback. In C-grade, Joshua McRae won with 96-26 70 and Tom Phillips was runner-up with 72 on a countback.
Ball winners: Jacob Chessells, Ryan O’Connor and Andrew Purdy 71, Shorty McNaughton, Drew Curtis, Jarrod Taylor and Josh Danaher 72, Scott Perry, James Ibbotson, Les Walsh and Dave Roberts 37 on countback.
The leading scratch scores of the day were: Matt Miller 72, Tim Nicholson 74, James Peck and Ashley Blake 76, Andrew Purdy 78, Paul Cornelius and Drew Curtis 79.
Friday: The Terry White Memorial stableford event was sponsored by Terry’s family who were present to help distribute trophies.
Tom Devine won with 45 points, Jeff Huddle and Jacob Chessells 38, Adria Richards, Linc Wellington and Leigh Thornton 37, Sean Martin, Bob Hunter and Jack Brophy 36, Lachlan Magee, Col Barlow and John Fanning 35 on countback.
Francie Mark won the women’s competition with 45 points, Judy Baker was runner-up with 39 while Phyl Fiddes had 38 and Paula Wills 37.
Sunday: The four-person medley Ambrose, sponsored by Colin Barlow, was won by Richard Ballantyne, Tim Nicholson, Dave Cornwall and Tim Nihill with a score of 55.25. Fred Andrews, Tom Devine, Michael Suster and Anthony Devine were runners-up with 56.75; Kelly Cheong, Dennis Hardie, Col Barlow and Rod Rathjen were third with 57.375; while Daniel Maher, Jayden Armstrong, Josh Danaher and Sean Martin had 58.125.
Midweek: Barry Dennis won Tuesday’s stableford competition with 38 points on a countback from Peter Hutton. John Keller had 37 while Ian Elders and Ross Kelly each won a ball for their 33s.
Bryce Wellington won Thursday’s event with 40 points, Linc Wellington was runner-up with 35, and balls went to Ryan Lindsay and Robbie Montgomery 32 on countback.
Twilight: John Rennie won on Thursday with 21 points on a countback from Francie Mark, Michael Mulcahy had 20, Scott Carter, Linc Wellington and Ty Guiney each won a ball for their 17s.
Coming events: Saturday’s stroke round is the second qualifying round for the championships and on Sunday Shepparton Real Estate is sponsoring a two-person Ambrose with more than $4000 in trophies. Teams of men, women or mixed are welcome with entries online or through phoning Hill Top on 5824 1689.

Women’s Golf
The second qualifying round of the championship, sponsored by The Railway Hotel Murchison, was played in cool conditions with a few light showers throughout the day.
Jan Coe had an excellent round, scoring 86-17-69 nett to win A-grade. Runner-up was Colleen Johns with 73 nett.
B-grade was won by Josie De Ieso with 71 nett, closely followed by Wilma Saunders with 72 nett.
Ball winners: Di Day, Sue Turnbull 73, Terri Wangeman, Bec Jeffers, Deb Reilly 74 and Sheryl Curran 75 countback.
Nine-hole competition: Joyce Tavener and Helen Williams both scored 37 nett.
Club Championships: The top qualifier in the Open Championship was Jan Coe who will play Robyn Downs in the semi finals, along with Terri Wangeman who will play Heather Long, with all matches off scratch.
B-grade's top qualifier was Bec Jeffers, who will play Sue Turnbull, while Di Day will play Wilma Saunders with these matches handicapped.
C-grade's top qualifier was Josie De Ieso who will play Robyn Butler, while Lois Rogers will play Rita Fairchild.
A nine-hole championship trophy has been introduced this year with Janet Leahy to play Heather Wildes in the final on November 29.
Congratulations to everyone who qualified in each division, some for the first time, and good luck for the finals. Semi-finals are to be played before the final on November 29.
