The contemporary campus will train the next generation of health and nursing professionals and early childhood educators and provide opportunities for school students to do pre-apprenticeships or study the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) — a hands-on, practical alternative qualification to VCE.
GOTAFE offers 37 Free TAFE courses, including Diploma of Nursing (HLT54115), to help prepare students for jobs that are in demand across Victoria.
For GOTAFE student Haley Currie, nursing was always something she was interested in.
“The main factor with actually doing something about it was that Free TAFE was offered” she said.

GOTAFE students benefit from hands-on training with experienced trainers.
“It’s the sort of stuff you can’t learn from a book” Haley said.
“They just help you understand it from a compassionate view.”
Students learn job-ready skills to set them up for success in the workplace.
“I feel like the TAFE course prepares you very well” Haley said.
“When you go on placement, it sort of gives you confidence to do things because you’ve already practiced it at TAFE.”
Haley is one of the trainers at Seymour Football Netball Club. Her role involves delivering first aid, injury management, rehabilitation, massage and using strapping and taping to help players recover.
“I think doing that job gave me the confidence to give the course a go because I knew I could handle a crisis, and handle when people are injured,” she said.
The modern facilities at the Seymour campus will benefit hundreds of local students and support greater collaboration between GOTAFE, community and industry.
With real-world health and nursing equipment, students will graduate with in-demand skills and pathways to meaningful work, which will help address skill shortages in the region.
