St Joseph’s Primary celebrates 100 years

Cobram’s St Joseph’s Primary School marked its 100th birthday on February 14 with a day of special celebrations for everyone.

The day started with a liturgy that was live-streamed due to COVID-19 restrictions, with current and former staff as well as students speaking during the event.

Students gathered as a whole school to celebrate and sing Happy Birthday, before enjoying delicious birthday cupcakes.

School principal Sarah Iddles said the achievement was a testament to the Mercy Sisters who initiated the St Joseph’s School and parish in the 1920s.

“It demonstrates to the students and school community the rich history and tradition St Joseph’s has in providing the Cobram community with Catholic education,” she said.

“What an amazing group of resilient, brave, hardworking students and staff we have in our school today.”

Ms Iddles also thanked everyone who helped the school through volunteering, fundraising, and committee support from the school and wider community.

The school will continue to celebrate the centenary during the year, including a memorial paver fundraiser for the new outdoor amphitheatre to be finished at the end of the year.

It will also be holding a 100th birthday gala night in November for past and present students, staff and parents as well as the community.
