Just over two hours’ drive from Shepparton, Mt Buller and Mt Stirling are the closest snowfields — perfect for a day trip and offering a taste of winter without the need for an overnight stay.
Last weekend’s snowfall gave the slopes an early-season boost, with tobogganing already available near TBJ and King Saddle at Mt Stirling.
There’s also space for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and alpine touring, with more snow expected in the coming weeks.
Lift passes for Mt Buller start from $126 for adults and $76 for children. Mt Stirling doesn’t have a lift system, and snow play is free.
Entry to the national park at both Mt Buller and Mt Stirling during the snow season is $67 per vehicle. All vehicles must carry wheel chains and fit them before entering either resort.
If you’re dreaming of seeing snow but don’t have access to a car, rejoice!
The La Trobe Student Association is organising a community snow trip, offering an easy way up the mountain.
The bus to Mt Buller is scheduled for Saturday, August 9, departing from Shepparton and returning the same evening.
Transport, lunch, a hot chocolate and mountain entry are all included. Just bring your snow gear and enthusiasm.
Tickets are $30 for LTSA members and $50 for non-members — an affordable way to enjoy the snow and meet new people.
