Mulwala Water Ski Club management have been impressed with what’s been done at various marinas in Victoria and NSW particularly the St George Motor Boat Club in Sydney.
An overall 171 berth marina at an estimated cost of $5 million over three stages is being planned by Mulwala Water Ski Club.

“We have a government grant of $52,000 to have a business case done with the first stage of 57 marinas,” club CEO Peter Duncan told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
“Stage 2 will be for 57 marinas and Stage 3 also for 57 marinas.”
Mulwala Water Ski Club management have undertaken substantial research on the big project - inspecting all the marinas from Sandringham to Brighton and a particularly in-depth look at St George Motor Boat Club in Sydney – and has a letter of support from Murray Regional Tourism.
“We really think there is a need for a marina in the community and at our ski club we’re a boating hub,” Mr Duncan said. “We’re very keen on it. St George has around 300 moorings.”
To be located close to the ski club’s lagoon area, the marina would be gate-secured, designed for various boats including the most popular ski boats and pontoons, with concrete separations/paths.
“Currently, we don’t have the facilities for boating enthusiasts,” the CEO said.
“You hear of boat owners leaving their boats overnight elsewhere on the lake and subject to the weather elements, being overturned, etcetera. We’ll have all the facilities and they will be secure.”
There are many pontoon boats parked at the Yarrawonga Yacht Club needing somewhere to moor. There was the occasion earlier this year when the Paradise Queen washed up onto the foreshore.
Daily, weekly and monthly fees would apply in respect of the moorings. The marina would create boat maintenance, storage and other opportunities in the boating industry.
The Ski Club’s marina project business case is Proudly funded by the NSW Government.
Main lounge renovation
In other news, work on the estimated $800,000 main loungeroom renovation begins next Monday, July 3.

Expected to take eight weeks, the new tile and carpeted areas will feature more comfortable seating, including booth style seating and a more friendly environment, designed by Studio Nine Architects Adelaide.
The club remains in full operation and the club regrets any inconvenience. But any inconvenience will be kept to a minimum, particularly with substantial work being undertaken, by Riches Homes & Improvements Mulwala before the club’s official opening hours.
“We will work around any inconvenience to our members and visitors and all work will be undertaken by local trades,” Mr Duncan said.
“We believe it will be a renovation upgrade which will be welcomed and appreciated by members and guests.”
Solar-covered carpark completed soon
The $2.4 million solar-covered carpark is expected to be completed by the end of July.
Work continues to progress well on the $2.4 million solar-covered carpark at Mulwala Water Ski Club, with the first stage expected to be completed by the end of July.
“A total of 334kw of power will be generated with a saving of about $100,000 a year and Stage 2 will have batteries and a generator for further savings,” Mr Duncan said.
“Stage 2 will happen in the next two years, then Stage 3 after that.
“We are also planning to develop a solar farm next to the Max Kirwin Ski Park which will generate further revenue.”
Mulwala Water Ski Club continues to embark on new projects, with its most recently completed projects being the Malibu Deck Extension, the all-abilities playground and the laser light show project.
“Our club wants the best for our members and guests,” Mr Duncan said.
“All our projects are done within financial capacity.”
