Sideshow overshadows football at recreation reserve

Ride ‘em cowgirl: Clementine Weakley on the mechanical bull that made up part of the Rochester Football Netball Club’s sideshow alley at Rochester Recreation Reserve during Saturday’s Say No to Violence Carnival. The event was held in conjunction with the seventh-round match of Goulburn Valley football and netball against Mansfield.
Harnessing her energy: A rock climbing was among half a dozen attractions that were in constant use during the three hours of the carnival that overshadowed the football and netball action. Sophie Kyne had a bird’s eye view of Moon Oval as she reached the top of the rock-climbing wall at the northern end of the recreation reserve.
Cactus country: Matilda Williams “kicks a goal’’ as she slides to the base of the Cars’ inflatable slide that attracted young and old to enjoy the steep descent to the awaiting cactus trees. Alongside the carnival attractions were a series of mental health, legal and shire representatives offering further support to those affected by the October floods.
Sugar rush: Olivia Mundie has a “breakfast of champions” early on Saturday as she prepared to enjoy an afternoon of supporting her beloved Rochester football and netball teams as they tackled their Mansfield opposition. The Say No to Violence Carnival was part of a league-wide initiative, which recognised the importance of delivering the message to young, old, male and female.
