Mr McCarroll’s wife Carmel and one of his sons, Jamie, were by his bedside when he died peacefully in GV Health’s palliative care unit on November 7.
Mr McCarroll’s 50 years in the transport industry in Shepparton was recognised on October 23 with an emotional truck convoy drive-by past his home on The Boulevard.
Mr McCarroll watched from a hospital bed in his driveway as a steady stream of about 80 trucks and other vehicles honked horns and their drivers waved from windows in a final goodbye.
The tribute, which was held on the day Mr McCarroll was to leave his home and go into palliative care, was organised by a group of friends in the transport industry who wanted to pay tribute to their mate.
Mr McCarroll is survived by his wife Carmel and sons Jamie and Patrick.
His funeral will be held on Monday, November 16, but due to COVID-19 restrictions the family has already invited those who will be able to attend in person.
