Shepparton Soroptimists get ready for Valentine's Day brunch

For its first face-to-face event since March last year, the Shepparton Soroptimist group is hosting its annual Valentine's Day Brunch.

This year the event will be held at the Woolshed in Kialla, with the money raised from the tickets to be donated to the GV Health Foundation to go towards a scholarship for a postgraduate student to study oncology or palliative care.

Aiming to raise $5000 for the scholarship, Soroptimist Marg Webster said it was looking hopeful.

The group donated a scholarship to the foundation last year as well, which GV Health Foundation director Carmel Johnson praised.

“The foundation is really appreciative of the Soroptimist support for our GV Health scholarship program and knowing the program provides opportunities for our employees to undertake their postgraduate training which is often expensive,” she said.

While it is only the second year the Soroptimist group has hosted the event, the group did manage to host the event last year before everything shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

After having to cancel the majority of its events last year, the group is happy to be reunited in-person again and is looking forward to future events, including the International Women's Day Breakfast the group hosts.

“Aside from our group meeting on Monday, this will be our first event back,” Ms Webster said.

“Last year's event was a huge success, so it's great to know this one can go ahead.”

Having already sold eight tables, Ms Webster said there was a limit of 200 tickets to ensure the event was COVID-safe.

Tickets can be purchased individually or in tables, which seat 10.
