The Victorian Government said the project replaced more than 13km of old wooden tracks with 15,000 new concrete sleepers and added over 35,000 tonnes of new ballast.
The upgrades also encompassed the reconstruction of the track through four level crossings in Wahring.
This followed improvements to a 26km section completed last year.
Roads such as Wahring-Euroa, Bunganail, McDonald’s and Grimwade closed for resurfacing but reopened post-Easter.
Further efforts to increase the line’s capacity are ongoing, with signal design work progressing to allow more trains to operate once the project concludes.
The Shepparton Line Upgrade has introduced VLocity trains to Shepparton, upgraded stations at Mooroopna, Murchison East and Nagambie, and increased service offerings.
Stage three improvements have extended the Murchison East passing loop to accommodate 1200m freight trains and two six-car VLocity trains simultaneously.
It has also expanded the Shepparton stabling facility to accommodate additional VLocity trains.
During the rail service downtime, V/Line conducted essential works, which included replacing sleepers between Craigieburn and Seymour, upgrading signals at Wallan and updating a 20km section of the freight line between Tocumwal and Strathmerton.
