‘Gimme Shelter’ is the theme for this year’s Brewing for Change function at Shepparton Brewery on Saturday, August 9, which will raise money for local homelessness services.
Heading the entertainment line-up is Shepparton musical veteran Ken Wong, aka The Wong Brother.
Wong started performing in the 1970s with original rock band Chinese Cooking, attracting metropolitan success and appearing on TV.
More recently, he’s been performing a mixture of originals and eclectic covers solo.
Joining Wong on the bill are Owen Holleran and Carole McGregor, who have been blowing audiences away with their chilled grooves and interpretations of songs, combining guitar, beats and classic violin.
A Portuguese flavour rounds out the line-up with Lara Sa, a local who comes via London and is no stranger to playing for 20,000-strong crowds.
Sa writes and performs her own material with beautiful vocals and heartfelt energy.
The idea is that patrons bring cash for their purchases on the day.
The revellers are then encouraged to put their spare change into donation buckets that will be placed along the bar.
This year, funds raised will go to The Salvation Army North East Youth Services and Goulburn Valley Fresh Start Foundation, who have teamed up to help the most vulnerable in the community with homeless relief and support.
The Salvation Army North East Youth Services youth participation worker Jim Gow thanked organiser Craig ‘Whiskas’ Veysey and his team for pulling together to help the homelessness situation in the region.
“The Salvation Army is pleased to be associated with the GV Fresh Start Foundation to help people who are facing housing insecurity in the Greater Shepparton area,” Mr Gow said.
“We are grateful to Whiskas, as well as the team at Shepparton Brewery, for donating the funds raised from their upcoming Gimme Shelter event to help us with this work.
“We always love it when people see that there are others in their local communities who are doing it tough and then get together to do something about it.”
Assemble your music-loving brew crew and you know what to do.
The ‘Gimme Shelter’ Brewing for Change event will be held during Homelessness Week at Shepparton Brewery on Saturday, August 9, between 2pm and 5.30pm.
