After a sluggish start, a depleted South side sailed past City in the second half to take home three points and keep its placing in the top four ahead of finals.
“It was one of those games where they had everything to play for and we just needed to win,” Shepparton South president Gino Cirillo said.
“The girls were down on numbers - they only had one on the bench - but they fought hard in the second half to get the win.”
After being kept scoreless in a cagey first half, Britney Scrivens popped up in the 48th minute to convert from a corner and send her side ahead.
Scrivens doubled up with 20 minutes left to play, pouncing on a rebounded shot from Alannah Scopelliti to put the game beyond doubt and take her season total to 33 goals from 11 games.
“Britney had a fairly quiet game by her standards, but Alannah played really well as did Kiara Ruijters,” Cirillo said.
South sits fourth on the ladder and is set to rub shoulders with Strathdale this weekend in round one of the Super Cup.
Elsewhere, Shepparton United finished the home-and-away season with its unbeaten record intact thanks to a brace from Sophie Papalia against Strathdale.
The rapid forward struck twice in two minutes to hand the Blues their 18th straight win of the season and secure pole position for finals, where it will face eighth-ranked Golden City this Sunday.
Tatura was not able to end its season on a similar high, succumbing to defeat against Spring Gully United 2-1 at Stanley Avenue.
Annika Basile’s first of the season sent the Ibises ahead in the 23rd minute before her strike was cancelled out by a Daniela Posteraro own goal.
Gully pulled ahead in the latter stages’ courtesy of Paige Conder, holding on to take the three points and lock in its spot for finals.
Sheppartons season also finished in a dim light, going down 8-0 to La Trobe University.
