Leading her fellow 1st Tullapark Scouts, Kyeisha planned the journey for her King’s Scout Award, the Venturer Peak Award and a significant milestone for Scouts to obtain.
The group set off from Broadmeadows on Monday, April 14, heading via train to Shepparton, then jumping on the coach to Echuca.
On a warm Tuesday, April 15, they hiked from Echuca at 8am, arriving at Rochester at 5.40pm to a well-deserved treat.
“We went straight along the train tracks,” Kyeisha said.
“It was very dry and hot, 30°C.
“We got to the Ampol and we had, like, five ice creams, I think.”
Kyeisha’s great-aunt is Rochester resident Lynette Brown, who happily housed the Scouts’ tents in her backyard.
While recovering from the hike, the group had a chance to explore town, stopping in at Rochester Bakery and Rochester Fish Shop.
“It’s beautiful, I love it,” Cienna Sheehan said.
“I would come back again — without sore feet.”
Ranging in age from 14 to 19 years old, some of the group have been involved in Scouts since Joeys (five to eight years), while others joined in their teenage years.
They particularly enjoy the social connection and time spent outdoors that Scouting provides.
“I enjoy the activities and the people,” Cienna said.
“I like the camps too ... it gives you a lot of experience.”
“You get a weekend with your people,” Kyeisha said.
