After winning various titles throughout the summer — including a club pairs crown with Brian Hall and club and division mixed pairs gongs with Sue Tyson — Higgins has returned from the Multi-Disability Lawn Bowls National Championships with more medals for the trophy cabinet.
Higgins won bronze in the triples and silver in the pairs events at South Suburban Bowls Club in Mackay, Queensland, snaring medals for the first time in his third attempt at the national event.
Higgins’ Victorian team also enjoyed wider success by claiming the overall win at the championships.
‘‘I have three people other than my pairs partners to thank,’’ Higgins said.
‘‘My wife Cathy for being so supportive and understanding, David Barton of Hans Stephan Specialised Mercedes Benz Service and Scott Campbell of Shepparton Windscreen and Radiators for their support over the years after my motorcycle accident.
‘‘Without this support it would be very difficult to perform at this level as you need to play and practice at least three to four times a week and stay away for extended periods.’’
