It has been 12 months since SWM released the concept plans for the upcoming renovations.
The organisation received $4.5 million in NSW Government funding for the project just a few months later.
The changes and additions being made to the existing building will develop better facilities for students and teachers.
The $4.3 million project will include the installation of external solar panels and upstairs outdoor performance areas, an extendable stage, the expansion of the auditorium to seat 150-200 people and state of the art lighting, sound and acoustic technologies.
The final design of the building will also incorporate a number of improved facilities like a new recording studio, band room, accommodation for visiting teachers and seven new music teaching studios.
Once finished the building will include all-gender bathrooms and be fully wheelchair accessible.
Mrs Burchfield said the organisation has worked over the last 12 months to finalise plans, and ensure they are using the best materials required for their needs.
She has confirmed that during the renovations, classes and events held by South West Music will be temporarily relocated to a building at the corner of Junction and Duncan Sts.
Located behind FitNow Gym, it formerly housed the Rural Fire Service Mid Murray Zone headquarters.
The exact timeline of the project has yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to take several months.
Despite the extent of the renovations, South West Music intends to preserve important heritage elements of their building while creating a performance and music hub for the region.
