Remembering the heroes

Remembering those brave soldiers who fought in wars will never be lost on today’s residents, including Trevor Hargreaves OAM, Billy O’Day OAM and Len McCallister.

The trio were at the Yarrawonga Monument on November 23 where Mr Hargreaves recited the Ode To The Fallen.

November 23, 2021 was the date when the Belmore Street monument turned 100 years-of-age and holds special significance to Mr Hargreaves and his mates.

“It means a lot to me and the old First World War blokes like Adam Spring from the Wilby Store, Billy Wright – ‘Tiger’ Wright’s father – Bert Wright – Monty’s father and Harry Pettit,” Vietnam Veteran and past Yarrawonga Mulwala RSL Sub-Branch President Mr Hargreaves said.

“We wanted to be at the 100-year-old monument. The sacrifices made…60,000 Australians died in that World War 1 … that’s a lot.”
