Doubled: Boat users will benefit from works to increase the size of a ramp at the Harriman Point recreation area at Waranga Basin.

Works to double the size of the high-level boat ramp at the Harriman Point recreation area at Waranga Basin is expected to be finished mid-May.

Goulburn-Murray Water project manager Nick Pearce said the renewal would see the 155m single-lane boat ramp widened to a double lane boat ramp with an adjacent compacted gravel turn-around apron.

“We will also be improving both the angle and consistency of angle of the boat ramp, which will provide better access for larger speed boats,” he said.

“Access to the low-level boat ramp at Waranga Basin will be maintained, but the high-level boat ramp will be inaccessible while works are under way.”

G-MW said up to 500 people passed through Harriman Point each weekend day during the warmer months.

Mr Pearce said there could be some minor access interruptions at Harriman Point during the works.

“We ask people to be mindful of an increase in heavy vehicles in the area during the works and thank them for their patience,” he said.

The works, costing $450,000, are being funded by Better Boating Victoria.

Victorian Fisheries Authority recently stocked Waranga Basin with more than 50,000 golden perch fingerlings, and shelter for the fish will be boosted with the installation of a native fish habitat.
