While the practice is based in Melbourne, Hive Legal lead principal Ella Cannon has been assisting leading the team from the Goulburn Valley after relocating “back home” in 2020.
“To co-lead a commercial law team that has now been recognised as the best in Australia is just surreal,” she said.
“To be able to do it from Shepparton makes it extra special to me.”
The firm was up against some of Australia’s most prestigious at the awards ceremony on Friday, August 12 at the Australian Turf Club, Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney.
Hive’s commercial corporate and regulatory team was selected for its achievements. Mrs Cannon said the firm valued flexible working policies, making her move back to Shepparton all the easier.
Being born and raised in Greater Shepparton, Mrs Cannon completed her schooling at St Brendan’s Primary School and Notre Dame College before going on to Melbourne University to follow in her father’s footsteps.
“My dad practised law in Shepp, and even back then the local sector was strong, so I’m really proud to now be a part of it in my own unique way,” she said.
Since moving back to Shepparton, she has worked in advising clients from start-ups to ASX-listed companies, government departments and local businesses.
Mrs Cannon joined the firm in 2016 and is one of the three lead principals in Hive’s CCR team, with a staff of almost 30.
“I feel especially proud of Hive for having the confidence to say: we’ll back working parents and people working remotely, because we know that doesn’t mean compromising on quality — in fact, it creates space for excellence,” she said.
