Cobram local Ray Fitzpatrick said the crime rate in Cobram was worsening.
“Let's say something is going on at 1 am and you call 000, it's going to take an hour for someone to arrive and a lot can happen in that hour,” he said.
“You can't even leave your front door open these days and people are breaking into cars more often.”
Mr Fitzpatrick said Cobram was a central location in Moira Shire for a police station to be manned round the clock.
“The damage vandals do is costly,” he said.
“These businesses and locals work their a*** off and with COVID-19 it's been hard, the last thing you need is somebody taking your private property.
“People should feel safe in their home.”
Victorian Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy previously delivered a petition to parliament, with almost 1000 signatures, asking for a 24-hour police station to be opened in Cobram.
“I've requested a 24-hour station from the Minister of Police multiple times,” Mr McCurdy said.
“We really are getting desperate, we need an injection of more police and a 24-hour station in Cobram.
“All we can do is keep putting pressure on the government.”
