From the football field to a polar plunge, the Kyabram Junior Football Club is returning this year with their Big Freeze 10 event to support Fight MND.

The DIY Big Freeze 10 will take over the Kyabram Recreation Reserve on Friday, June 21 for a night of fundraising, fun, and the centrepiece of the nights occasions: the Big Freeze Slide.
Fight MND is an organisation established in 2014 that seeks to find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease: a group of diseases that severely impair the nervous system and leaves a person with no control muscles.
The disease leaves a person with the inability to move around, speak, swallow and breathe, and the average life expectancy is 27 months from diagnosis.
Round nine at the Kyabram Recreation Reserve will look a bit different for the club, with a full roster of home games in addition to the Big Freeze 10 event.

All Kyabram Junior Bombers teams will play on the day, and will wear special Fight-MND themed socks generously donated by Brendan Roberts Constructions.
It is the club’s second year hosting the fundraising event, and organiser Mel Roberts said it was an easy decision to come back for another round after raising an impressive $12,500.
“Last year, we set our goal at $5000, and we smashed that, so we’re very optimistic for this year,” Mrs Roberts said
This year, the team have their sights set at a higher number: $15,000.
Last year’s dunking system will be forgone for the infamous slide plunge, which sees volunteers and notable figures slide their way into a pit of icy water.
Mrs Roberts said that fundraising for MND is more important than ever.
“Every second person you meet on the street has a connection to MND or who knows someone that has a family member dealing with MND, so it’s really important to find a cure for this,” she said
“If you find a cure for MND, there’s a lot of other diseases you are helping the research.”
Mrs Roberts said that the team is currently rallying volunteers to take the icy plunge, and this year, she will not be getting away dry.
“I’m one of the few, this year,” she said.
Federal member for Nicholls Sam Birrell took the plunge last year for the Kyabram Fight MND Big Freeze event.

Last year saw an appearance from Federal Member for Nicholls Sam Birrell who took the polar plunge for FightMND and garnered donations for the cause.
The Kyabram Junior Football Club is on the lookout for volunteers to go down the slide for a minimum donation of $500 with ten positions up for grabs.
