Peter German loving life at Roos home

New Corowa senior football coach Peter German has taken an instant liking to his new coaching surrounds, at John Foord Oval.

“It’s still country – that’s the beauty of it. For me, it’s about the club progressing and still looking forward and making life better for players,” he told The Free Press.

Developing players and improving players is what coaches everywhere aim to do, according to the highly respected 185-gamer with North Melbourne.

Like other Ovens and Murray clubs, Corowa Rutherglen has recruited strongly over the past few weeks and is still on the recruitment trail.

“I’m very happy with the recent recruitment, getting some guys from Melbourne and also locally which is very important for our club,” German said.

“Players willing to play O and M and play for Corowa is a sign of a good club.”

It was early when The Free Press called in to meet the new coach but already there were 20 players ready for training.

“Numbers are good at this early stage. We had 34 last week,” head of football Craig Spencer said. “Among some new faces are brothers Damian Wilson and Cameron Wilson.

“It’s good to see the keenness. George Sandral from Oaklands is here, the son of Anthony, a premiership captain of our Reserves.”

The Roos have appointed 34-year-old Daniel Athanitis as a development coach. “Daniel will be working on a pathway for under 18s through to senior level up to about age 23 – seeing that these players are happy with their development,” the head of football said.
