The $2 million project includes a new shop, offices and car parking at the rear.
According to the planning application, options to retain and remediate parts of the existing building have been explored; however, due to the extensive amount of demolition required to remove compromised fabric, poorly constructed and non-compliant structure this would be extremely difficult to achieve.
“Coupled with the objective of creating a functional commercial space suitable for use as a modern supermarket, retention of any part of the structure is not physically possible or financially viable,” the report stated.
The application has yet to be considered by council.
