New housing for GV Health workers opens on Monash St

The project was funded with $10.2 million from the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund and a sum from the Regional Worker Accommodation Fund that was not disclosed due to commercial-in-confidence concerns.

“This project is a game changer,” GV Health chief executive Matt Sharp said.

Mr Sharp said that workers would not have to pay to live in the accommodation, which would make their move to Shepparton easier.

“Having stable and comfortable housing for staff moving here is something that’s really important,” Mr Sharp said.

Victorian Rural and Regional Development Minister Michaela Settle said the new facility would mean that GV Health would need to secure less off-site housing, opening up those locations to be rented by the general public.

“These new apartments will help Goulburn Valley Health attract and retain the skilled workers Shepparton needs, while supporting the next chapter of growth for this great regional city,” Ms Settle said.

The apartments began construction in February 2025 and will host doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and other staff.

When asked about the ongoing industrial action from Victorian Allied Health Professionals Association, Ms Settle confirmed there would be a meeting with the government in the next week.

“A really important part of our health care is allied health,” Ms Settle said.
