Over the past two months local groups were invited to donate a standard rose and metal post and a small amount to a memorial plaque for the commemoration of the Queen.
Strathbogie Shire Council supported the garden idea, helping dig the bed in the High St nature reserve, near the water tower.
Fifteen donor groups and individuals contributed to the memorial.
On Friday, August 18, Michael Smith, Mick Burns and Dianne Grant marked out the garden bed and placed the pots in their positions for planting.
About 10.30am three Nagambie Primary School representatives, Strathbogie Shire Senior Citizen of the Year Helen Heathcote, Junior Citizen of the Year Brodie Miller and school student Julian Aisbett-Wray planted the primary school’s ‘all gold’ rose.
Then a small working bee of volunteers came along from the Men’s Shed, RSL, Community House, Senior Citizens, and Anglican Church and within two hours all the donated roses were sorted, planted and staked, and labelled with donor groups’ and individual’s names.
The garden will be dedicated on Friday, September 8 at 11am.
Ms Grant extended her thanks to everybody who contributed to the project.
“The community spirit has been great,” Ms Grant said.
A memorial plaque will be placed in the garden before the ceremony.
September 8 is the one-year anniversary of the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The dedication ceremony will be conducted by the Anglican minister of St John’s Nagambie, Reverend Richard Pennington.
An invitation is extended to all donor groups and the community to attend.
