Cars seem to be the primary target, with one stolen from Deniliquin last week and more entered or tampered with.
Murray River Police District Chief Inspector Michael Fuller said making things harder for thieves can start with removing valuables such as wallets and money from vehicles left unattended overnight.
“It can also assist your vehicle security to lock doors and secure your vehicle when left unattended.
“It can often be an opportunistic crime to steal from motor vehicles, where offenders will try many car doors.
“Those that are unlocked give them a very quick opportunity to get in, grab what they can and move on.
“The harder you make it for thieves to get into your vehicle or to access keys to steal the vehicle will make it harder for them to commit this crime.”
Police received three official reports of cars being accessed in the Hetherington St area of south-east Deniliquin on Thursday.
All are believed to have occurred between 5am and 5.30am, but it appears nothing has been removed from any of the vehicles.
“Information so far suggests that three people were in the Hetherington St area at the time of these offences, and could assist police with their investigations,” Mr Fuller said.
“It is believed that the suspects also tried a number of car doors to other vehicles but, finding them locked, moved on.
“Police investigations are ongoing.”
Between 8pm Sunday and 1am yesterday, a vehicle parked in Hughes St, Deniliquin was broken into.
Wallets and personal papers were taken from the vehicle.
